RF connector basics


The electromagnetic wave transmitted by the RF connector is an oscillating particle wave which is generated by the electric field and the magnetic field which are in phase and perpendicular to each other, and is an electromagnetic field propagating in the form of wave, which has wave-particle duality.

The electromagnetic wave is an electric field and a magnetic field which are oscillated in the same phase and are perpendicular to each other, and move in the form of waves in the space. The electric field direction of the electromagnetic wave, the direction of the magnetic field, and the direction of propagation are perpendicular to each other, and the electromagnetic wave has no longitudinal component and is a transverse electromagnetic wave.

Basic performance of the connector The basic performance of connectors can be divided into three categories: mechanical, electrical, and environmental.

   (1) Mechanical properties

   In terms of the connection function, the insertion force is an important mechanical property. The insertion force is divided into the insertion force and the extraction force (the extraction force is also called the separation force), and the requirements of the two are different.

   (2) Electrical performance

   The main electrical properties of the connector include contact resistance, insulation resistance and electrical strength.

   (3) Environmental performance

   Common environmental properties include temperature resistance, moisture resistance, salt spray resistance, vibration resistance and impact resistance.

 Including characteristic impedance, frequency of use, return loss, insertion loss, isolation, RF leakage, phase consistency, third-order intermodulation, etc.

 Common materials and coatings for RF coaxial connectors

 The RF connector is mainly composed of external conductors, inner conductors and insulating support media. The commonly used materials are as follows:

   I. outer conductor: stainless steel passivation, copper alloy gold plating, copper alloy nickel plating, copper alloy plating ternary alloy, etc.;

   II. Inner conductor: copper alloy gold plating, copper alloy silver plating, etc.;

   III. Insulation support medium: PTFE, PEI, LCP, etc.
