What is the SMA connector?

SMA connector is a semi-precision coaxial RF connector developed in the 1960s. It is the smallest connector interface for coaxial cables with a helical coupling mechanism. The SMA connector has a 50Ω impedance. SMA design From DC (0 Hz) to 18 GHz, but most commonly used in handhold radios and mobile phone antennas, it is now more widely used in IoT meters, refrigerators and other smart homes.

SMA connector visually and standard household 75 ohm ̊F type coaxial connector (diameter: male 7/16 inch (11 mm) round or hexagonal; female 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) external thread) Visually confusing because only the overall specification difference is about 2 mm. If the adapter is not used, the F-type cannot be used with the SMA connector.

The SMA connector uses a PTFE dielectric that will contact the mating plane. The variability of the structure and the fit of the connector limit the repeatability of the connector impedance. For this reason, and they are only rated as a limited number of connection cycles, SMA connectors are generally not a good choice for metering applications.

The SMA connector is rated for up to 500 insertions and pulls, but to achieve this, the connector must be properly twisted when connected.

Twinlink Communication Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. has 12 years of industry experience, providing customers with thousands of SMA connector solutions. Choosing Twinlink is the solution to choose the top RF connection.
